Cervical spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis is caused by the wear and tear of the disc in the cervical area of the neck. It Ayurveda, it is called Sandhigata Vata. Prolonged sitting, unnatural position and movements of neck, etc., can cause this. Lack of physical exercise is also a contributor. Vata Dosha aggravation leads to such disorder. Ayurvedic treatment focuses on calming Vata Dosha through special herbal medicines. Advice is given about specific types of food for improving Vata. Ayurvedic oils are also applied externally for improvement. Some of the major treatment procedures include abhyangam + podikizhi and greeva vasti, shirt and Shiro vasti, Panchakarma therapy, Shirodhara or Shirovasti, Kizhi, Pizhichill, Elakizhi, etc. These treatments help to reduce pain and inflammation of the muscles and ligaments and improve the flexibility of the neck. Cervical spondylitis

Cervical spondylitis is caused by inflammation of the joints of cervical vertebrae, which leads to pain in the spine. Spondylitis can affect spinal bone or other vertebrae also leading to pain and stiffness of back. Ayurveda offers different types of Panchakarma treatments and ayurvedic medicines for such disorders. Ayurvedic oil massages are done that helps to improve blood circulation in the affected area.Diet related recommendations are provided to help make appropriate dietary changes. Patients are also advised about appropriate exercises to be done. Ayurvedic treatment not only helps to alleviate the symptoms but also reduce the severity of the disabilities caused due to spondylitis.



Sciatica is the pain generally described as that starts in lower back and goes down into the legs. It is caused by any injury, inflammation or compression to the sciatic nerve, starts from lumbar area. It is also referred as lumbar radiculopathy. If you have sciatica, you will experience mild to severe pain along the path of the sciatic nerve, that is, from lower back, hips, buttocks, and down the legs. In Ayurveda, it is called Gridhrasi and is classified as one of the vata doshas. Ayurveda recommends detoxification and diet and lifestyle modifications as the treatment course. A dedicated treatment course is defined for each patient that includes oral medication, application of herbal oil and paste, dietary changes, etc.  Following the prescribed procedure, it is possible to address the root cause of sciatica pain and achieve long-lasting relief.


Lumbar spondylosis

Lumbar spondylosis is an age-related degenerative condition which affects the lumbar vertebrae or lower spine. It happens when the space between the discs in the lumbar spine gets reduced. This results in different health issues like low back pain and other neurological issues.Aggravated condition can lead to difficulty in movement, leg muscle weakness, etc.Ayurveda says that when vata aggravates, it leads to imbalance of vata dosha. Ayurveda identifies that increased levels of toxins (ama) in the body leads to rheumatic pain. So, the treatment course includes intake of herbs and medicines to balance vata. Along with detoxification and elimination of toxins, a proper guidance of diet and lifestyle changes is provided. Panchakarma treatments like Kati Basti, Abhyanga, Swedana, etc., are part of the treatment course. Yoga asanas are also recommended to assist the treatment course and for achieving long-term success.


Ayurvedic treatment for back pain
